'Making OneNote Document Read-Only' Same as any other file: Close the document. Find the actual file in Windows Explorer or Documents. Right-click on it and choose 'Properties'. Not being able to search though the files is a huge handicap. I had to go around it by installing a separate OS on my new Mac only for running OneNote. It’s still very inconvenient. It seems that users have been complaining about this for several years but unfortunatelly it has still not been fixed.
